Edwin Preston was born on 28th August 1901 in Swaffham Prior (Newmarket Q4-1901 3B:490), baptised in St Mary's Swaffham Prior on 13th October 1901,
son of Pledger Tom and Eliza PRESTON (née WALLER).
1911 census...Aged 9, he was at Vicarage Lane, Swaffham Prior, with his father Pledger Tom PRESTON [48] farm labourer; his mother Eliza [40] Also there was his niece Edith May PRESTON [11 months] (Daisy's daughter). All except his mother were born in Swaffham Prior. His mother had borne 11 children but one had died. In the 1939 register, single, a farm labourer [now recorded as born 27th August 1900], he was at Vicarage Lane, Swaffham Prior with his widowed mother Liza [19-4-1872], sister in law Alice R [11-4-1904] and her son Eric E.J. [28-2-1933]. No closed records. |
Unable so far to ascertain what cap badge this battalion would have worn. Usually it was the county regiment's badge. The badge depicted above is the lapel badge to be worn on a civilian jacket.
No idea of the cause of death without his death certificate. Details of the Home Guard are not easy to find either.
